Parkwest Casino Cordova
Cordova Casino has selected Associate Ryan Tiburcio for this month’s employee spotlight! We decided to take a trip to Cordova to ask Ryan some questions. Here’s what he had to say:
What was your immediate reaction when you found out you were being selected for Employee Spotlight?
I was pretty shocked! I always read the Knighted Writer and this is one of my favorite sections that is covered. It’s cool that I get to participate in it this time around.
So now you’ve been with the company for a little over 10 months, tell us a little bit more about yourself?
Still kind of new to America. I’m originally from the Philippines. I love basketball. Lebron James is my favorite player. Basketball everything! When I’m not at work, I usually like to play at the park with some friends or at home on NBA 2K. Aside from basketball, of course, my family! We like to have occasional BBQ’s and quality time. Other than that I would say sing karaoke, but I’m not much of a singer.
Now for some fun questions. Everyone has a song they jam to, what’s your theme song for summer 2018?
I’ve always been a Justin Timberlake fan. If I had to pick one it would be “Love Never Felt So Good” by Justin and Michael Jackson. All of his albums are good but that would be the one for this summer.
If you could pick a spirit animal to describe you, what would it be?
That’s tough, I would have to say a Maltese. My girlfriend used to have one. They’re homebodies and like to be comfortable in their surroundings.
If you could pick a fictional character to bank a table, who would you pick and why?
Ironman. He’s got the smarts to catch mistakes on the table and he’s professional too. He’s always well dressed and would make a good Gaming Associate.
Do you have any advice for the newer Associates in the company?
Just try to be focused and motivated 24/7. It’ll help time go by and help you achieve whatever it is you are trying to do. The best way to be comfortable in something is through repetition.
Now that 2018 is halfway through, what’s your goal for the rest of the year?
My goal is to make improvements and hopefully move up within the company. To make progress and grow as a person. I feel like I’m on the right path.
Parkwest Casino Sonoma
Delonzo Powell was selected by his supervisors at Parkwest Casino Sonoma for employee spotlight because of his great attitude, his consideration regarding the needs of the team, willingness to volunteer, and consistent performance. Delonzo has been a member of Knighted for 10 months and we are pleased to give you a preview of this wonderful individual.
Let’s start with the basics, any random fact you could share with us?
I grew up in Sonoma County. I’ve lived in Occidental, Santa Rosa, Cotati, Petaluma, Windsor and Napa. I like to hike in places like Armstrong Woods, Point Reyes and Tomales Bay. I enjoy cooking and eating healthy. My favorite thing is eating vegetables and fruit that I grew myself. A random fact I’ve been sharing lately is that my grandmother, my son and I are all Aries and we were also all born in the year of the dog!
What motivates you to get up and come to work every day?
Funding my education, supporting my family, being involved in and contributing to community events – I attend farmers markets and go to family-owned businesses.
What’s a hobby that you have that no one from Knighted knows about?
I collect and read books. I have books by Jack London, and Cornelia Funke, R.A. Salvatore and a bunch of cookbooks. I recently finished The Celestine Prophecy by James Redfield. An intriguing read about finding greater spiritual awareness, a collective consciousness and how humans were to achieve unity.
Describe what you were like at age 10, has that changed?
At age 10 I read all the time. I spent a lot of time in the garden and kitchen with my grandmother. My uncle, LaMont, introduced me to video games and anime, I was hooked. My mom and I liked to build and craft jewelry and furniture and do art together. Actually, not much has changed I still do all those things.
If you could have an endless supply of any food, what food would that be?
It would be sushi. Sushi is fun and actually very versatile. It can be vegetarian or have fish; baked or deep-fried.
Are there any places you’ve never been to that you’d like to visit?
I would like to visit South America and walk in the forests there and to see Machu Picchu. I want to go to Egypt and see the pyramids, temples and find an oasis. And I want to go to Japan and just experience as much as possible.
We’re halfway through 2018, what’s your goal for the rest of the year?
My goal is to grow more vegetables and fruit and keep more plants around my house.
What advice do you have for prospective Knighted team members?
I would advise taking the job seriously. It’s not enough to train and come to work with a closed mind. I think that we should keep our eyes open for chances to improve, listen to your peers’ opinions and respect their perspective.
What is your proudest moment at Knighted?
My proudest moment is when I accepted the position officially. I had been through a few unsuccessful interviews just before and I had so many doubts. “Was my experience relevant, did I have the right look, was I outwardly too anxious, or was I too cocky?” I updated my wardrobe and drove to Emeryville – not a big deal but something I had never done on my own. When I got off the phone I thought “Wow, I did it!,” I held back my jitters just long enough.
Okay, last question, what’s your theme song for the summer of 2018?
My theme song is Kiss and Tell by ROM and Naji. It just keeps putting a smile on my face, I love the vibe. I like the line “I don’t need no one to love me, I just need to love myself.”
Ahlam Ziani is our all-around superstar from Players Casino being featured this month! She was excited to share her many talents and interests with her fellow Knights. Read more to find out what they are!
Tell us a little about yourself.
When I was living in the Bay Area I worked as a pastry chef, which is what my mom does too, and I enjoy baking in my free time. I also like to ride motorcycles and do volunteer work for the sick, homeless, and elderly.
What motivates you to get up and go to work?
In Algeria, women are not able to ride motorcycles or have a lot of the freedom that we have here. I try to do as many things as possible with my days because I don’t want to waste the chance.
What’s the first thing you do when you get off of work?
I usually check my emails to see if any of my family has reached out. They are all back in Algeria so I try to talk to them as much as possible, then I cook.
If you could have dinner with an influential person, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
My father because he was an amazing person that was nice to everyone he met, family and others. He is my inspiration because he was different and open-minded. He encouraged and pushed me to be my best, even when others did not believe in me.
Are there any places that you’ve never been to that you’d like to visit?
I have been to Turkey many times and it is one of my favorite places. I would like to go to central Africa and help with rescuing and preserving wildlife.
What’s one thing that you know now that you would tell your past self?
I have traveled so many places and experienced many things. I would tell myself to enjoy myself more and try to do as much as possible while I had the opportunity.
What’s a hidden talent that you have?
I love computing and coding. Recently, I started an online company where I am able to sell beauty products, accessories, and plants that I grow.
If you could have an endless supply of any food, what food would that be?
It would have to be Mehageb. It is a traditional Algerian dish made with different meats, veggies, and spices that you cook together on top of a stove and eaten with a special dough.
What’s your theme song for the summer of 2018?
The Storm by Yanni, it’s awesome! I like to rock out to it when I’m baking or doing things around the house.
We’re halfway through 2018, what are your goals for the rest of the year?
I want to help people be aware of animal cruelty and try to have them buy cage and cruelty-free brands. I also want to introduce more products to my store online and maybe hire some people to help me keep up with orders. Oh, and go to flight school!
